Translucent

translucent was a novel (and a film) i was working on in my last year in college that i never finished. well the movie was done, but it’s 40 minutes and pretty rough and i’d like to someday fix it. (i’m currently working on an adaptation for the game The Movies — very slowly…)

the idea was there was this huge world story and the actual novel(s) were just a tiny fraction of the big picture. the links below are what i’ve got left from that project.

oh, there was also supposed to be a video game but that never happened…it turned into a somewhat amateurish shockwave-built cd-rom companion to the movie. which i no longer have a copy of.

Translucent -unfinished final- (the last incarnation of Translucent)
Translucent -rough- (rough first draft of Translucent, then titled A Grip Like Fear)
Translucent NOTES (notes, cut text, and spoiler information from Translucent)

the macro story and timeline i don’t have anymore (at least not in the form of a timeline). the gist starts off with the martian explorer, which, in addition to the red sand, accidentally discovered evidence of a highly advanced science lab that was hastily destroyed. from fragments of formulas NASA and a privately funded research organization was able to decipher a fragment found in the wreckage which turned out to be a formula for a flesh-like substance. they then took that, added it to contemporary virus and artificial intelligence technology and created a new unique organism able to be programmed and reproduce itself. there’s also hintings that humanity was one such experiment from the same alien race that designed this formula.

note: if you want to get rid of the ugly question mark characters in place of ’s, change your browser’s character encoding to Western (ISO-8859-1) (usually found under View -> Character Encoding or something like that).
